Birmingham Tunnels

Birmingham

VolkerLaser were appointed to bring strategically significant tunnels in central Birmingham in line with European safety standards.

Lancaster Tunnels

Works included strengthening the tunnel entrances, breaking out concrete, installing new foundations, installation of new safety barriers, hydro-demolition, installation of emergency points, encasing support columns, redecoration, a full asbestos survey and subsequent asbestos removal.

Queensway & St Chads Tunnels

An essential part of Birmingham’s roadways, the Queensway and St.Chads tunnels are used by 40,000 vehicles each day, and are notorious for causing city centre gridlock when blocked by accidents or breakdowns. Works included structural modifications, provision of new finishes and upgrading of the lighting.
