Arbroath Energy Savers

VolkerLaser externally insulated 188 properties as part of the Arbroath Energy Savers Scheme, a £1.7m project which intended to drastically reduce carbon emission produced by inefficient heating and insulation systems. Famed for its cold Scottish winds, heating the homes of Arbroath was a priority for its residents, who were selected through a door-to-door canvassing exercise. Arbroath was chosen specifically due to its lack of access to the mains gas grid, meaning residents had to suffice with more expensive forms of heating and cooking, subsequently producing 2 and a half times the carbon of a standard gas-connected property.

VolkerLaser worked to  decrease the U Value of properties by reducing energy loss through external walls.. Not only were homeowners able to enjoy warmer properties and reduced fuel bills, but additionally, a healthier and eco-friendly environment. The local community benefitted greatly from the works; because of our healthy relationships with all of ‘the Big Six' energy suppliers VolkerLaser were able to secure funding for the project. This consequently meant works could be carried out free of charge for all residents, much to their delight.

The project also generated many local employment opportunities. VolkerLaser are dedicated to providing local jobs for local people, a commitment which not only makes commercial sense, but concurrently
provides residents with some degree of ‘ownership' over the project. Local venues were further utilised to host open days as well as progress and site meetings.

A formal Customer Service Policy was adhered to during the project to ensure maximum customer satisfaction at all times.

A dedicated RLO (Resident Liaison Officer) was based at Arbroath during the length of works. The RLO set up an initial consultation event at the beginning of the project in order to provide tenants with an
understanding of the works programme prior to the construction phase. Additionally, introductory meetings and regular consultations were offered throughout the works. Finally, customer satisfaction surveys were issued prior to and after the completion of works in order to evaluate the work of the RLOs, and highlight the areas of improvement, as well as recognise what they did well.

VolkerLaser employed sub-contractors in order to carry out plumbing and electrical works, as well as to provide additional scaffolding. Sky Engineers were also utilised within the project.

Works were completed within a twelve week period, with the final homes concluded in February 2014. VolkerLaser left Arbroath leaving a positive impact upon its community, environment, and to much customer satisfaction.
