Dunfermline Energy Savers
VolkerLaser are currently installing external wall insulation to 530 privately owned properties in Dunfermline, Fife in an effort to tackle both fuel poverty and climate change.
Initial surveys of the area were carried out to review the eligibility of the properties. VolkerLaser found the houses were built with solid walls using ‘no fines' concrete and that the walls had very poor thermal properties. This meant that the properties were very difficult to heat up and a very high proportion of heat loss from space heating was through the walls. VolkerLaser determined the most suitable solution would be to carry out external wall insulation.
This scheme was available to the home owners at no cost due to a combination of funding of ECO via a utility company and HEEPS:ABS from the Scottish Government.
A series of invites were sent to the applicable areas of Dunfermline to attend a consultation event where they were able to obtain more detail about the project and gain an understanding of the environmental benefits, fuel bill reduction and the new look their home will have. VolkerLaser worked closely with Home Energy Scotland to offer independent advice to homeowners before and during the
works.
VolkerLaser started on the first properties in April of 2014 and have programmed the houses in over a 5 month period that is running smoothly and on target. This £5.1m project has seen VolkerLaser repair existing surfaces and the instillation of external wall insulation to a high standard.
VolkerLaser's dedicated Resident Liaison Officers have been on hand during the works to maintain the vital link between the home owners and VolkerLaser and supply chain.
A pre-vetted local supply chain is being utilised within this project, this has not only benefited the local economy but also had a positive effect on minimising the C02 produced from this project.
A local satellite office and warehouse facility set up to directly service this project. By having a warehouse storage facility close to the works, VolkerLaser have been able to minimise downtime, as materials are pre-ordered and securely stored ready for use on site.
The works are having an immediate impact on the properties with residents already commenting that their houses are warmer than ever!
