Organised by Safer Highways, the Highways Heroes awards recognise the heroic actions of individuals who have coped admirably in the face of adversity.

At the ceremony, held at Grosvenor House in London, Phil was praised for his selfless act when saving a woman’s life following a serious road traffic collision last year.

Phil had just finished a shift on the M11 Strip Lynchets scheme and was travelling home, when he witnessed the accident. Stopping his work vehicle, he put the beacons on and got out to assist, performing lifesaving first aid and CPR.

Managing director, Mike Weaver, who attended the awards alongside Phil, said: “It was very humbling to attend the awards and celebrate Phil’s brave and selfless actions, which were truly amazing.

“Phil was among other worthy winners, who have also saved lives through courageous acts, and it makes me very proud to be part of VolkerLaser and this fantastic industry.”
