VolkerLaser is delighted to announce that the Tamar Bridge project has been shortlisted for Project of the Year at the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) South West awards.
Completed in October 2021, VolkerLaser was contracted by the joint authorities of the Cornwall Council and Plymouth City Council, to undertake essential resurfacing works to the main bridge deck. The existing surface, which is more than 20 years old, was nearing the end of its serviceable life, and needed to be replaced, to ensure the safety of people using the bridge. Originally opened in 1961, the Tamar Bridge is a 335m long suspension bridge, spanning the River Tamar between Saltash, Cornwall and Plymouth, Devon.
The winners will be announced at the CIHT awards ceremony which will take place at Sandys Park, Exeter, on Thursday 19 May.
On Sunday 17 October, VolkerLaser completed resurfacing works on the Tamar Bridge - two weeks ahead of programme.
