It is with great pleasure to inform you that VolkerLaser Ltd has received a Distinction level award through the British Safety Council at their annual International Safety Awards, following our application earlier this year for our Holt Fleet Project.
This is the first time VolkerLaser has entered the award, which recognises and rewards organisations that show a real commitment to improving corporate health and safety. The Distinction achieved was based on a series of questions relating to health and safety controls on the project. A maximum of 60 points were available. The Awards themselves are judged on four levels Distinction, Merit, Pass or Fail.
To obtain such a prestigious and recognised award is a great achievement, but receiving the top level Distinction award (60marks out of 60marks) is a tremendous result for everyone associated with the project.
Due to its structural design and poor state of repair the Holt Fleet Bridge project not only created challenges regarding its 'buildability' but also presented significant health and safety risks in addition to other potential environmental risks as the bridge spanned the River Severn.
The award is testament to the 'whole team' on the Holt Fleet project, that includes the skilled operatives and tradesmen used during the construction phase and of course the project management team.
We can take invaluable learning points from this project a few are outlined below:
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility strategy it is intended to enter the same awards next year, not only do they recognise good practices for safety but also help us with future work opportunities.
