VolkerLaser are delivering specialist structural waterproofing works to The Corniche in London; a mixed-use development of three towers along the Albert Embankment on the south bank of the River Thames.
Ranging from 15 to 27 storeys in height, the three towers will provide 253 apartments, including affordable properties for senior living. The premises will also include offices, restaurants, a bar, gym, pool and spa.
VolkerLaser are utilising a Stirling Lloyd Integritank waterproofing system to podiums, balconies, roofs and terraces. A combination of spray and liquid applied waterproofing will be applied, as well as a green roof system on some of the balconies, and ballast roofing. Slabbing works will be undertaken on completion of the waterproofing, and will involve challenging workmanship as due to the weight of the slabs, they must be moved 1 at a time.
The works are taking place in a challenging environment due to the buildings’ close proximity to a live railway. Its location in central London means that many pedestrians are in close proximity to the site on a daily basis, with health and safety being paramount on the contract to ensure a smooth running of operations.
