Tay Road Bridge reopens
VolkerLaser is delighted to share that the Tay Road Bridge has now been fully re-opened, as of Tuesday 10 September.
Our specialist team completed the final phase of works on this major refurbishment overnight, roughly 18 months after we started the initial phase of works on the northbound carriageway back in 2023.
For the first time since the bridge was built in 1966, the surface on both carriageways has been completely removed down to the concrete bridge deck, with waterproofing applied and a new asphalt surface laid on top. In addition, 92 new expansion or movement joints have also been installed. We have also resurfaced the on/off ramps at the Dundee end of the bridge.
“Our specialist team is thrilled to have reopened the bridge, marking the completion of this project. Our efforts have been crucial in extending the service life of this iconic bridge, and it’s been a pleasure to contribute to such a landmark structure.”
