Carbon reduction
At VolkerLaser, we are committed to taking positive action to reduce or, wherever possible, eliminating our adverse impacts on climate change.

As part of our commitment to long-term protection of the natural environment, we aim to be Net Zero for all emissions by 2050 in line with UK Government strategy. Our carbon reduction strategy also contains the VolkerLaser Carbon Reduction Plan in line with the requirements of PPN 06/21
To support our strategy, we are a signatory of the Science Based Targets Initiative ‘Business Ambition to 1.5°C’, which confirms our commitment to setting a science-based target in line with a 1.5°C future.
We work with our clients, supply chain and our procurement teams to promote sustainable choices of materials to help stimulate a downward trend in emissions, as well as increasing the use of electric vehicles and plant, and renewable energy.

Power generation - think renewable energy
A large volume of fuel is combusted each month on our sites to generate power. By using the latest technology and renewable energy solutions , we can dramatically reduce our carbon footprint. Wherever possible, we encourage our teams to use battery storage units and hybrid generators, which is estimated to reduce diesel usage on site by c.50% on average.

Small tools - big changes
We have trialled rechargeable battery units, and this is now a trusted power option for small tools at remote locations, replacing petrol generators. We have also trialled a range of electric small tools which we are introducing on projects across our business.

Solar power
As well as choosing battery-powered task lights and festoon lighting, we regularly use solar powered security lighting and cameras to help reduce emissions across all of our projects.

Waste initiatives
Many of our project teams work with Community Wood Recycling, who provide a commercial waste wood collection service diverting this from landfill. The wood waste is reused or recycled by a team of volunteers, creating opportunities for a diverse range of people including ex-offenders, those with mental health problems, people in recovery from addiction and young people who have never had a job.
