VolkerLaser advances with works on the A417 Missing Link Scheme
VolkerLaser has been appointed by Kier Group plc to deliver waterproofing, anti-graffiti coatings and joint installation across various structures forming part of the A417 Missing Link scheme.
The A417 scheme is a major road upgrade near Gloucester, delivering a new, safe and resilient dual carriageway aimed at reducing congestion and improving traffic flow. For VolkerLaser, the full scope of works, includes surface preparation, waterproofing, joint installation, anti-graffiti application and hydrophobic impregnation activities.
Works began on the A417 Bat Underpass, starting with concrete surface preparation, followed by the installation of a bonded waterproofing strip and protection boards. This was then followed by the application of Saint-Gobain’s Eliminator waterproofing system. Once fully complete, and in coordination with other contractors, this underpass will enable bats to fly safely beneath the new A417 carriageway. Works on the Grove Farm Underpass will follow the same scope on a larger scale and will provide a local resident improved access to their property, as well as facilitating maintenance access to telecoms masts, the attenuation pond and the watercourse at this location.
Works have also been carried out to Shab Hill Junction Underbridge, which provides access for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders to travel beneath the traffic. This has included concrete surface preparation, application of the Eliminator system, bond coat installation and the installation of B20 buried joints.
This project is being self-delivered by our in-house applicators within the special projects division, and is an example of our core skillset in working to protect, repair, strengthen and refurbish the built environment for clients across the UK construction industry.
