The Corniche
VolkerLaser successfully delivered specialist structural waterproofing works to The Corniche in London; a mixed-use development of three towers along the Albert Embankment on the south bank of the River Thames.
What we did
Situated in the London Borough of Lambeth, The Corniche buildings range from 15 to 27 storeys in height, and provide 253 apartments, including affordable homes for senior living, along with offices, restaurants, a bar, gym, pool and spa.
We used a Stirling Lloyd Integritank waterproofing system to podiums, balconies, roofs and terraces. A combination of spray and liquid applied waterproofing was used, as well as a green roof system on some of the balconies, and ballast roofing. Slabbing works followed the completion of the waterproofing, providing a challenge to our team, due to the weight of the slabs. The team was only able to carry one slab at a time, leading to a time-consuming process.
Our site team had to consider a range of health and safety implications when working on the project, primarily due to the location of the buildings. As a result of being in Central London, pedestrians were in close proximity of the site on a daily basis, whilst works were also made challenging due to the buildings being built next to a live railway line.
