Making a difference beyond the project: supporting community growth in Polbeth and West Calder
On Thursday 13 August, six colleagues from our Scottish division, currently working on the Houston Interchange project, spent the day volunteering at the Community Woods and Garden in Polbeth and West Calder.
Established in 2013, the Community Woods and Garden provides woodland trails, a flourishing growing space, and community workshops. Its vision is to create a centre where residents can develop life skills, improve their well-being and build confidence through participation in a diverse range of engaging activities and support.
During the day, the team carried out a variety of tasks to support the charity. This included constructing several benches, which had been kindly donated by the team, providing places for visitors to relax in the garden or take a break while exploring the woodland trails.
The team also cleared a large area of vegetation in preparation for the creation of new allotments. These allotments will be available to rent, helping to generate additional funds for the Community Woods and Garden, as well as addressing the demand for allotments in the local area.
