VolkerLaser Volunteers: Refreshing an outdoor space at the Welford Centre

On Thursday 11 June, four members of our team working on the A167(M) Central Motorway in Newcastle spent the day volunteering at the Welford Centre.

The Welford centre is a day service for adults with severe learning disabilities and additional complex needs. The centre is accredited by the National Autistic Society and offers a wide range of specialist facilities, including sensory, therapy and activity rooms, a fully accessible garden, and adaptive equipment. Experienced staff provide tailored support, including communication support, behaviour management, medication, physiotherapy, and specialist care.

During their visit, the team carried out various tasks to refresh the garden area, helping to create a more welcoming and enjoyable outdoor space for those who use the centre. This included removing weeds, clearing leaves and vegetation, and generally tidying the outdoor area. They also emptied planters and flower beds and replanted them with sensory flowers donated by the team. In addition, the team also donated a new picnic table to the centre, which they assembled themselves, as well as providing gardening tools to support the ongoing maintenance of the space.

“We are incredibly grateful for the time and kindness the VolkerLaser team has given. The garden work, sensory area, and donated picnic table will make a lasting difference, giving everyone a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoor space. These thoughtful gifts will be treasured for many years to come.”
